Lab Testing Consent
Please read this consent before you buy a blood test. It explains what the test is, who does each part of the work, what your results can and cannot tell you, and what happens if a result is dangerous. You give this consent when you tick the box at checkout.
In this consent, "we", "us" and "Halftime" mean Halftime Health LLC. "You" means the person who buys the test and takes the sample.
1. What you are buying
You are buying one at-home blood test. The product page lists every marker the test measures. Each test measures only the markers on its list. No test checks for every condition, and no test replaces a checkup with your own healthcare provider.
The test is a one-off purchase. It does not start a membership. We will not charge you again unless you buy something else.
2. Who does each part of the work
| Who | What they do |
|---|---|
| Halftime Health LLC | Sells you the test, arranges the lab order, ships the kit through our kit partner, and shows your results in your Halftime account. Halftime is not a medical practice and does not practice medicine. |
| A clinician in Arora Health's network licensed in your state | Authorizes your lab order by attaching their name to it. Their name appears on your lab order. The Standing Order Notice explains this. |
| Tasso, Inc. d/b/a Ramorra | Supplies the collection kit, ships it to you, and supplies the prepaid return label. |
| Clinical Reference Laboratory, Inc., 8433 Quivira Road, Lenexa, Kansas 66215 | Tests your sample. It is a laboratory certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA). CLIA number: 17D0667123. |
"Arora Health" means Arora Health and/or its subsidiary entities.
3. How the test works
- You buy the test and confirm your email with a code.
- A clinician in Arora Health's network licensed in your state authorizes your lab order by attaching their name to it. Federal lab rules require a laboratory to test a sample only on the order of a person the law authorizes, such as a licensed clinician. This is not a medical review and not a prescription. The clinician does not examine you or speak with you.
- The kit arrives at the address on your profile. You take a small blood sample from your upper arm with the device, following the kit instructions. A Complete Panel uses two devices, at one sitting.
- You mail the sample back with the prepaid label.
- Clinical Reference Laboratory tests the sample. The results come to us, as your agent, through our kit partner's system.
- We email you when your results are ready. The email does not contain your results.
4. Your results appear without a clinician review
Your results go to your Halftime account when the lab releases them. No clinician reviews them as part of this test.
Your account shows each result with the typical range we compare it to and a plain-English explanation of what the marker is. It marks results outside the typical range. You can download a PDF summary of your results.
5. Results are information, not a diagnosis
- Your results and our explanations are general information. They are not a diagnosis, and they are not medical advice.
- A result inside the typical range does not prove you are healthy. A result outside the range does not prove you are ill. Other laboratories and sources can use different ranges.
- Only a licensed clinician who knows your health history can tell you what a result means for you.
- Share your results with your own healthcare provider, especially a result outside its range. You can download the PDF summary to do this.
- If you want to talk to a clinician through Halftime, you can book an optional video visit for $49. That visit is separate from this test. It has its own telehealth consent, which you accept when you book.
6. If a result is dangerous
Some results are so far outside the normal range that they may need urgent care.
- The laboratory. If Clinical Reference Laboratory finds a result in its critical range, federal law requires it to alert the clinician who authorized your order.
- Halftime. We check your results against our own urgent cutoff. If a result crosses it, your account marks your results for follow-up, and our operations team gets an urgent alert.
- Halftime does not diagnose or treat. Do not wait for anyone to contact you. If your account marks a result outside its range, or marks your results for follow-up, speak with a clinician or your own healthcare provider promptly.
- If you feel unwell, or you have a medical emergency, call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.
7. Limits of the test
Many things can change a result. Read the kit instructions and the product page before you take your sample.
- Fasting. Some markers, such as triglycerides and glucose, change after you eat. Follow the fasting instructions for your test.
- Biotin. Biotin (vitamin B7), in supplements and in many hair, skin and nail products, can make some results falsely high or falsely low. This includes thyroid and hormone results. Stop biotin for the time the kit instructions state before you take your sample.
- Timing, medicines and supplements. The time of day, your menstrual cycle, hard exercise, alcohol, and medicines or supplements you take can all change results. Follow the timing guidance for your test.
- False results. Any lab test can give a false result: a result that looks abnormal when nothing is wrong, or a result that looks normal when something is wrong.
- Sample problems. A sample can be too small, damaged in transit, or unreadable. If the lab cannot test your sample, we send you a replacement kit at no cost.
- Capillary samples. The device collects blood from small vessels near the skin (a capillary sample). Results from a capillary sample can differ slightly from a sample taken from a vein at a clinic.
8. Risks of taking your own sample
The device takes a small amount of blood from the skin of your upper arm. You may feel brief discomfort. You may get a small bruise, or feel lightheaded. Infection is rare. Follow the kit instructions, clean the skin as shown, and stop if you feel faint. Do not use the device if the kit instructions tell you not to.
9. The test is for you only
- You must be 21 or older.
- The test is for your own information. Take the sample yourself. Do not use the kit for another person.
- One person, one state. The kit ships only to the state on your profile. To ship to a different state, change your address in Settings. The rules for that state then apply.
- We sell tests only in the states that checkout shows as available.
- We confirm your email with a code before you pay. We do not ask for a government ID to buy a test.
10. Self-pay only
- You pay for the test yourself. We never bill your health insurance, Medicare or Medicaid for the test, and we do not submit claims for you.
- Lab tests are commonly HSA/FSA-eligible; your plan administrator decides.
11. Price, refunds and replacement kits
The price is shown at checkout before you pay.
- Before your kit ships: you can ask for a full refund in the support channel in Ask Hana. Our operations team checks that your kit has not shipped, then issues the refund by hand to your original payment method within 3–5 business days. Refunds are not automatic. Your bank may take longer to show it.
- After your kit ships: we do not give refunds.
- Sample the lab cannot test: we send you a replacement kit at no cost.
- Kit lost in the mail: if your kit has shipped and has not arrived 10 days after the later of the day we placed your order with our kit partner and the day the kit shipped, or the carrier reports it lost, we send a new kit at no cost.
- Kit returned to us by the carrier: we send a new kit at no cost after you confirm your address.
- Kit not returned: if you do not return your sample within 90 days after the kit ships, we close the order. We do not give a refund.
If the law of your state gives you more rights than this section, those rights apply.
12. Your information
- Your results are kept in your Halftime account. You can view and download them at any time.
- Halftime receives and keeps your results as a business associate of Arora Health, under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). The Privacy Policy and HIPAA Notice explain how we protect them.
- We never use your result values in advertising or in any marketing email. We never send them to an advertising or analytics platform. No advertising or analytics service receives data from the pages that show your results. This rule applies to everyone, members included.
- If you bought through a partner's link, that partner never sees your name, your contact details or your results. If you pay through an employer program that AEP administers, AEP handles your payment and sees the order reference you give it. We send AEP no test data and no results.
13. Changing your mind
You can decide not to take or return your sample at any time. The refund rules in section 11 still apply. Once you mail your sample, the lab tests it.
